The development of the Porte d’Ivry interchange, designed by Marc Mimram around the urban project conceived by Yves Lion, has opened a breach in the ring road, making it possible to connect Paris and its suburbs via the ring road infrastructure. This long-awaited encounter, which abolishes the notion of the door, gave rise to one of the most stimulating Parisian consultations of recent decades.
The IP-Factory team, formed around a consortium of developers (Kaufman & Broad, Sogeprom and le Grand Réservoir) and led by Unibail RW, called on Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés to respond to this unprecedented consultation launched by the City of Paris.
Working in partnership with French agencies such as DVVD, Linah Gotmeh and HEMAA, and international agencies such as Thomas Heatherwick studios, Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés spent almost two years working intensively on this development project.
Brenac & Gonzalez & Associés, finalists in the consultation, proposed to reconnect Paris and Ivry through a new district dedicated to transition, whether territorial, ecological or societal.
By extending the micro-scale fabric created by Michel Kagan in the administrative city, the project creates a village-like neighborhood on a human scale, open to the Seine.
The project anticipates the transformation of the ring road into an urban boulevard. It develops in the gap freed up by the relocation of the access ramps, where buildings will emerge. Beneath the infrastructure, the link is woven through the Paris-Ivry alley, animated by innovative and active programming.
Life is the driving force behind the design. The project aims to be a factory of sustainable transition, with unrivaled environmental ambitions, to become a symbol of the city of tomorrow.
