Croizat-Houël Block

120 housing units in partnership with Atelier de la Passerelle

The Croizat-Houël block occupies a strategic position, destined to become an architectural landmark marking the entrance to the city and a key junction.

Our proposal aims to link different urban situations by integrating an iconic building at the entrance to the city and visual porosity towards Louis Dupic Park. The surrounding urban fabric consists of buildings dating from the 1960s and 1970s. It is characterized by the free placement of buildings on their plots. The building is no longer attached to the street. The standard floor plan serves as the basis for a regular extrusion erected as a block in the urban landscape.

This architectural logic is expressed through a grid of window frames, a highly repetitive pattern across the height of the building, resulting in clear construction efficiency.

In the same way, our design reveals the geometry of the site in all its dimensions by placing use at the center of its concerns. Serving as a supporting structure, balcony edge, shade device, and terrace all at once, this grid weaves a unique and iconic graphic design into the skyline of Vénissieux, reflecting the very identity of the city.

Because the city needs to be re-enchanted, our proposal is based on a musical articulation — a historical articulation between heritage and modernity, an urban and geometric articulation expressed through a bioclimatic framework that thickens along the exposed facades and creates large terraces and balconies. Because at the heart of our intervention are use and users.
