Form is substance rising to the surface.

With this phrase, Victor Hugo highlights the relationship between form and substance. Plastic art, which takes shape in reality, thus has a profound relationship with what underlies it. Its soul, its functions, its raison d’être shape its appearance.

Our experience of the appearance of form therefore tells us what it is, what it contains, and what it is used for. There is undoubtedly a possible connection in this definition with inclusive design, which consists of designing objects and spaces for which no instructions are necessary — a design in which use and function naturally appear to users.
